To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By/RD. Electric Petrol Gauges. There have been recently a number of cases of electrical petrol gauges not functioning correctly. I am not referring to customers complaints but cases within our own experience. The usual defect is that the gauge will not respond when the tank is being filled in at the pump, rendering it impossible to check the amount purchased until after the car has got in motion on the road, when the gauge as a rule returns to a correct reading. The latest failure we have experienced is a high reading similar to that which afflicted the old Hobson form of gauge. This occurred on experimental car 19-G-IV when returning from Farnborough as you are aware. It looks as if we ought to make some investigation into the causes of these troubles, with a view to improving the gauges for the benefit of our customers. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
