Handwritten: WST Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd. Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. West. Re: Electric Petrol Gauges. We thank you for your letter of the 17th inst, and have carefully noted your comments with regard to the size of the Float. We beg to advise you that we have recently increased the size of this and have changed the material from which it is made so as to obtain greater bouyancy. This seems to have effected a considerable improvement and to a very large extent, got over the trouble of the float sticking. We are sending under separate cover one of these floats for your inspection and shall be glad to receive your comments after you have had an opportunity of examining this. We also think that part of the trouble has been caused by the present form of bracket distorting when in service and causing both the gears and the spindle to bind. In view of this we have submitted a sample of the Aero type which we consider will entirely eliminate this. On going further into this matter from a production standpoint, we consider that the design can be further improved by adopting a casting which will embody the flange bracket and gear housing in one piece. We are preparing a drawing on these lines and will forward you a blue print for your comments in the course of a few posts. With regard to the experimental sample for the Bentley tank, we suggest that it would be as well for this to be of this improved type and we will proceed on these lines, unless we hear from you to the contrary. TO AVOID DELAY ALL ENVELOPES SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO THE FIRM. | ||
