Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1070. 19.4.39 re. 3 1/2 Litre Jaguar. We received this car on 12.3.38, the running in was carefully carried out, and the engine was not extended until the car had completed 1000 miles. Actually the car had covered 1,300 miles when the writer took it to Brooklands to obtain a top speed, only 3 laps were covered however during this visit to the track. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JMW took the car to Brooklands after it had run 7,700 miles for some comparative tests, a check of this kind is frequently carried out on customers cars and we do not consider this should be detrimental to the Jaguar. The mileage run by us on the Jaguar was 8,400 miles, during this running the following mechanical failures occurred:- 1. Leaking petrol tank 2. Failure of exhaust suspension brackets. (2). 3. Exhaust pipe broken away at the entrance to OS rear expansion box. | ||
