-2- A scheme has been tried of cutting grooves in the bakelite washer, so letting the water act as a lubricant. Result. This has not proved a definite cure and only lasted some 1,200 miles. Further investigation is required. Piston Blowby. This is rather bad on B.80 engine. We have effected a big improvement in 4.B.50. by fitting split skirt pistons. 33.G.7. is also suffering very badly from this complaint. Water in the Servo. Trouble was experienced on 33.G.7. the servo on being dismantled being found full of water. No undershields were fitted on this car originally, we have now fitted a shield over the servo and also drilled a small drain hole in the back plate. Noisy Car Heaters. This is caused by too high a driving speed and the very small bearings developing slack far too quickly. Improvements are required in the heater and the matter will be taken up with the manufacturers. Electric choke on Stromberg carburetters. This is very good for starting cold, but we do not like the way it cuts in with a warm engine after the ignition has been switched off. Trouble has been experienced on 30.G.7. while in the hands of the transport Dept. with sooty sparking plugs a set only lasting 1,200 miles. A modification to this type of choke is being tried on 4.B.50. mounted to the induction pipe not spot this prevents the choke closing while the water is warm. Servo Jaggers. The very slight servo jagger experienced on the B.50 chassis has still to be investigated. it is not apparent on | ||
