X3729 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}2/H5.12.22. TEST BODIES FOR 40/50 and GOSHAWK CHASSIS. X3730 X3729 At a meeting of Messrs. Windovers Representative, Mr. Wetton, Mr. Oldham and myself yesterday at Windovers Works, Huntingdon, to go into the question of unsuitability of test bodies, the principal trouble being the excessive drumming. It was demonstrated on both the 20 h.p. and 40/50 chassis fitted with test bodies that the drumming was excessive, which contention was agreed to by Mr. Oldham and Windovers, and they will endeavour to do all that they possibly can to overcome this trouble. It is expected that they will complete all the work in this connection by Monday next, and arrangements were made that we should again meet on that date, and that I should take from Derby one of the bodies we have, either 20 h.p. chassis or 40/50 for alteration, and providing one of the present chassis they have is satisfactory, I shall bring this back to Derby. Other unsatisfactory points were also brought up as follows:- 40/50. 1. Clearance round change speed quadrant and accelerator pedal. Ample clearance will be provided at this point so that the bodies can be lifted in a vertical direction without fouling this point. 2. Rear Wings foul main bearings of rear springs. The rear wings will be altered to give sufficient clearance to suit both types of chassis. 3. Instruments Boards fitted permanently to body. On looking up the specification, it was found that the Coachbuilders should have fitted these. This point was settled and instrument boards will now be fitted. 4. Trap door for rear axle to provide access to the oil filler plug. This will be done on all bodies. 5. Floor boards require fixing. It was arranged that turn buttons should be fitted to these so that they could be secured and prevented from "blowing" up. CONTINUED. [Stamp: RECEIVED HJB DEC 1922] | ||
