FORM 20.HP. ALLWEATHER. 28.6.23. ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. SPECIFICATION FOR COACHWORK TO BE FITTED TO ROLLS ROYCE CHASSIS. CHASSIS NO. 5.G.11. STEERING, Raked. FINISH, Nickel. TYRES, Straight side 32 X 4 1/2. BONNET, standard. Special chassis fittings. COACHBUILDERS, Young & Co. CUSTOMER, Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd. To be completed by three months after receipt of order, provided chassis is received within 2 weeks of that date. (1) TYPE OF BODY. Saloon Cabriolet (All-weather.) (2) SEATING. Four, two on the back seat, two on the fixed front seat and one auxiliary occasional seat folded into the back of the front seat, and allowing the passenger to look forward (designs to be submitted.) The front seat and squab not to be too flexible and must be to our drawing. (3) CONSTRUCTION. English ash framing strengthened by body plates where necessary. Aluminium panels throughout with joints made invisible. (4) DOORS. Two each side to open at right angles or more, with central shut pillar. Strong outside hinges, handles of approved pattern, top lever handles for inside. Locks with double striking plates, large and strong dovetails. (5) HEAD. Folding head combined with folding pillars, inside locking gear. The mechanism must be such that the head does not require specially high ceiling to garage for clearance when putting it up or down. The whole covered best enamelled hide, lined cloth and arranged to be free from rattles when folded flat or locked to windscreen. (6) WINDSCREEN. Sloped at 22 1/2° with bottom panel fixed and shaped to scuttle, top half in two and to swing overlapping bottom half by 1 1/4". The two portions of top half to be capable of being swung and locked independently and to have provision for fastening them together in the centre if desired. Thin rubber stops to be provided to keep panels separate. (7) WINDOWS. All windows to fall. Window channels lined thick felt covered with velvet. Door windows fitted with glass frame carriers or 'flappers' lined felt or felt and velvet. Falls to be waterproofed and provided with drain holes. All windows operated by approved regulators. Fit small fixed back light with cover pad or blind. (8) VENTILATORS. Large ventilator to be provided in each side of scuttle - See item 20. (9) WINGS RUNNING BOARDS & VALANCES. To be to RR. design, detachable wings and valances of rust proofed steel or 16.S.W.G. aluminium. Wings to have deep outside valances and drip flanges to be arranged as approved to protect car against mud. Running boards of suitable hard wood, covered fluted lin-rubber with polished angle plate.
