20 HP. Chassis - India.
Front Springs.

I sent Messrs. Thos. Firth & Sons a copy of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RB{R. Bowen}/
LG23.3.25 (received with yours By/HM{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}11/W30.3.25) and in
accordance with the second paragraph of By/7/H19.3.25, I
offered to return to Firths the 5 front springs referred
to which have been tested out on our bumping rig.

I drew their attention particularly to the fact
that the life of the springs varied from 10.4 to 19.12 hours,
the average life being 14 3/4 hours, as compared with 14 1/2 hours
life of the usual spring.

I also drew their attention to the fact that the
top or main plate fractured in each case and that the top
plates of two springs were of different thicknesses to the
other three. Also, that the top plate of one of the springs
has a considerably higher Brinell hardness than the remainder.

We are now in receipt of a letter from Firths, dated
1st inst. acknowledging receipt of the report and adding
that as they wish to go thoroughly into the matter with
Mr. Stansfield, they would like to have the 5 springs returned
to enable a close examination to be made.

I will hand By/HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 5 labels to attach to the springs
and shall be glad if you will arrange that same are handed to
Dn. as quickly as possible.

Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}
