CyLE-102723. -2- October 27, 1923. (2). contd. If in very cold weather difficulty is met with in sliding the gears when the gearbox is cold, dilute the oil in the gear -box with one quart of engine oil. Do not use graphite lubricants or any other type of grease in these parts, as such lubricants tend to clog the oil passages. (3). Steering Box. A heavy non-fluid lubricant is best for this part but ordinary cup grease should not be used as it tends to dry out, leaving a hard varnish-like residue on the ball bearings etc. in the box. We can recommend :- New York and New Jersey Lubricant Cas. "Non-Fluid Oil - 0.3" Sinclair - "Shamrock Lubricant". There are doubtless many other suitable heavy lubricants which do not dry out, but at present we are not in a position to recommend any but the above for this application. (5) Water Pump. Any heavy grease of good quality. A high grade graphite grease is preferable. (6) Pressure Gun. A fairly heavy oil is best in this gun. We recommend :- Vacuum Mobiloil "C" or "CC". Valvoline "Heavy" or "Extra Heavy" Gear Compound. 600-W can be used in winter but is rather too fluid in hot weather for such parts as spring shackles, etc. Oy. MC/E | ||
