"STORK" & "HERON" FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. X4550

We thank you for your By/C12/H71222, and for your GL.{G. Linnett}29. We agree that what you show there would overcome the difficulties and might be used to carry on with pieces you have in existence, but at the same time we think the remedy is rather drastic considering the small nature of the contact between the rod and the axle. We should like as we pointed out before to keep the rod vertical in the side view, or nearly so. We have accordingly set out on N.sch. 1361 how we suggest the modifications might be carried out to give you clearance. You will see that we propose the top lever to be 4.2 long instead of the existing 4", the bottom lever to be moved back into it's original position, and the section of the axle to be reduced to it's original dimensions. If this is done we think that you are clear under all conditions, though we agree that the clearance is small. For the cross steering lever we suggest that a slight modification in the shape will overcome the difficulty. It will be remembered that on N.sch. 1317 we pointed out that we thought the levers were stronger than they need be, and that should it be found necessary, modifications could be made.
