X3117 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}9/KW. 7th March, 1934. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Attention of C.W. Nichols Esq. Dear Sirs, JACKALL JACKS. We thank you for your letter S.1. 16.2.34. and note your remarks. We have not written before this as we have been awaiting a report from our Design Office re the scheme you sent us for rear axle Jack fittings for our Phantom II car. Their report is now to hand, and they state that the scheme cannot be satisfactorily applied to our axle as it takes up important clearances and that the top of the Jacks run into the frame side members. We suggest that if you will kindly let us have a drawing shewing the internals of the Jacks, we may be able to suggest a modification to enable them to be fitted into the available space. Reverting to your last letter re the number of turns required on the handle to lower and raise D.W.S. Jacks, we are now using a two-speed handle on the larger models, which overcomes a good deal of winding in unloaded movement to and from the Jack casing. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
