3½ LITRE BENTLEY - EXHAUST CUT OUT

"The Silver Ghost Cutout which is now being fitted on Production Chassis on test is very unsatisfactory."

"The elongation of the exhaust pipe due to the heat effects causes the operating mechanism to foul the hand brake differential shaft, and thus prevents the valve from seating properly. This of course causes a very objectionable rattling noise."

"Another feature which we feel may cause trouble is that when the cutout is used the exhaust gases impinge on one of the bearings of the foot brake differential shaft."

"Another point is that the split pin in the joint pin securing the cutout valve is showing considerable wear and does not appear as though it will have a very long life."

"We are sending you a complete cutout for your examination which illustrates this latter point."
