(21) The wings are to be placed exactly above the wheels and must cover them efficiently by surrounding them along at least one third of their circumference. The width of the wings must be such that no portion of the tyre protudes beyond the side edges of the wing when the wheels are not locked over. In cases where the wings are covered wholly on partly by portions of the bodywork, the combination of the wings and body or the body only must nevertheless fulfil the protection requirements provided for above. The rear tips of the front and rear wings must extend downwards at least as far as the horizontal plane passing through the wheel hub centre. MUDGUARD Art. 23. - Cars provided with swivelling mudguards in front will be accepted providing these mudguards cover at least one third of the circumference of the wheel and ensure uninterrupted protection. WINDSCREEN AND BONNET Art. 24. - The windscreen may be disappearing but not removable, made of safety glass or square mesh netting. The open portion of the mesh shall have a maximum width of 2.5 millimetres. Safety glass is a glass intended to reduce or suppress the risk of injury by glass splinters when the glass is broken. The use of safety glass which becomes opaque when struck is prohibited. The upper horizontal edge of the windscreen must be at a height not less than 75 centimetres measured vertically from the front edge of the driver's seat cushion on which the gauge provided for in article 21 has been placed. Said upper edge of the windscreen must, along the whole of its width, be at a vertical height of at least 15 centimetres above the upper edge of the scuttle of the car and at least 15 centimetres vertically above the line of junction with the scuttle. The method of attachment of bonnets must include two leather straps with a minimum width of 30 millimetres and a minimum thickness of 3 millimetres, one at the front and one at the rear of the bonnet, spaced at least 30 centimetres apart, fixed to the chassis and passing through staples fixed on the bonnet. The straps are to be provided with tongue buckles and both ends must be permanently anchored to the chassis and not merely connected to it by a hook or any other means. FIRE PROTECTION Art. 24 b. - Every car must be provided with adequate protection between the engine and the driver's seat to prevent the direct passage of flames in the event of fire in the front portion of the car. STARTING Art. 25. - Automatic starting by means provided on board is compulsory and is the only method allowed. *** | ||
