W/P - Sr/VA. 4742 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.30/KW.1.10.35. Continental Phantom II Shock Dampers. Re your Sr/VA.3/JB. 26.9.35. The attached is a copy of a note giving instructions in January last for all Continental Ph.II's to have 80 lbs. initial shock damper loads. The standardisation sheet was completed 30.1.35. If the customer now in question likes his suspension really hard, I suggest you try 150 lbs. initial load front and rear. 200 lbs. should be kept as the top limit. You will experience considerable difficulty in setting loads above 100 lbs., if you do not block up the vent grooves at the top of the damper piston, as the oil leak through these grooves enables the lever to move slowly without lifting the valve. I suggest that you keep a spare piston with block up grooves for setting high poundages. We use solder to block the grooves temporarily. No doubt you will use an extension on the damper lever in order to reduce the effort during setting the load. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A.
