Phantom III.

It is proposed to fit Hall's metal big end bearings (Strap rods) in conjunction with the reduced crankpin diameter into 35-EX.

Will you please put this job in hand which comprises the following details.

(1) Ex.22401/4 crankshaft and oil caps. Crankshaft to be modified by drilling an extra .250" dia. hole in each journal at 180º to the existing holes

(2) Ex.22402/3 Big end bearings in AC.1 alloy Clearance as specified for No.6 unit. (Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}14/JH.6.7.36.) which was run at .00225 clearance on the fork rod and .003 on the blade rod bearings.

(3) Blade rods similar to Ex.22525 but in material suitable for case hardening bearing surface of the rods. (S/ZnCR)?

In view of the rather grooved surface of the chromium plated blade rods as run on No.6 unit we have decided on the above.

The strap rods otherwise as LOP.E.86125 including drilling of the oil jet holes in the rods which is standard practice.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/L.H.Swindall

We are bringing the car back to have the above parts fitted before it starts running in France, as at present big ends pack up in 7,000 miles Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}
