BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7230 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M/13.4.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' EXHAUST SYSTEM. X.7230 X.7380 Our enquiry by wire with reference to the gusset plate was because we had seen that it fouled the cross member when the latter was bent up to clear the cutout operating rod. Had the dies not been made we might have considered the desirability of setting up the gusset plate a small amount, but under the circumstances we consider the best thing is to return to the original design of cross member (N.Sch.2852) and modify the cutout to suit. We shall be sending you a scheme in the course of a day or two. With reference to the L.H. control we propose to run the intermediate shaft across the car, and on N.Sch. 2878 herewith we suggest how by slightly modifying the centres the same pieces (except the shaft) can be used for both right and left hand.
