Dear Sirs,

Answering your letter of yesterday's date, re separators, at the moment we are of the opinion that .6 mm. thickness would be sufficient. Actual measurement of separators taken out of the batteries shows these to be only about .3 mm. in the used condition.

If, therefore, we started with .6 mm. and imagine .1 mm. to be taken off in use, we should still be left with a thickness of separator 67% greater than at present.

Seeing that we do not know of any definite failure due to this cause, and also taking into account the fact that the particular batteries which we examined had been subject to treatment equivalent to the whole life of a battery on a chassis, we think that a moderate increase in the thickness of the separators will meet the case. That is our present impression of the matter which may however be altered when your further information is to hand.

Contd.
