Remarks.

Modified type of gland has been standardised. The oil grooves in the packings on the older models are helping to overcome this trouble.

This trouble is considered by Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} to be due to faulty lubrication, and special instructions have been issued to Depots as to the correct method of packing the axle with ball bearing grease. (No change from last quarter.)

No definite cure. Cannot hope to make a specification to suit everybody. Something we can never hope to cure absolutely on present design. The specification has been changed, which we anticipate will help these complaints. These numbers include squeaking, which in some cases is persistent in spite of gaiters and oiling.

A spring damper has now been standardised and is being fitted on to production cars, and a modified damper design has been produced which is applicable to earlier N.P. cars.
