| -2- Nature of complaint. Steering (various). We expect complaints from the original steering. There are sufficient modifications to cure any complaints that arise. Noisy magnetos & magneto failures. E.W. 6 adjustable magnetos is defunct, similar to E.O.6. Burning Platinum Points. Cure:- Scrubby contacts. Tighter points, double value ballast resistance. Engine Overoiling. Honed cylinders and forged circle rings under test. Damaged pipe to Hot-spot due to distortion. Latest type flexible feed pipe successfully used, and being standardised. Advantage was taken of the various cars being at W. or Depots to change the old type steering for the .940 worm and nut. They are not all complaints, but have been included in the list as we are now carrying out this changeover. (No change from last quarter). The position is the same as at last quarter. The latest magnetos are a definite improvement. We are carrying out the Oil Seal and new sleeve to prevent rapid burning of platinum points. Our impression is that this scheme is improving the position. We have now had some experience of honing cylinder bores and we are expecting this new practice, together with avoiding distortion of the bores when bolting down the cylinders, to give us better results than we have previously had. Honing gives an almost perfectly round bore. Improved method of holding pipe has been standardised and a modified type of pipe is helping to overcome trouble in earlier models. | ||
