COSHAM SIDE STEERING TUBE. X4265

We send herewith N. sch. 1267 shewing the rear end of the side steering tube modified to give increased movement and a lighter initial spring load.

We have removed the washers previously used for adjustment and have replaced them by a double nut at one end in accordance with Mr. Royce's recent instructions. But since this would cause the 2 pads to be dissimilar, we have shewn two nuts at the forward end, also we think these last may be replaced by a castle nut and split pin if preferred, keeping the pads the same, or the arrangement as drawn may be used.

In order not to increase the overall length and also because it seems to make the job more suitable for a gaiter, we have replaced the split pin which previously locked the main nut, by a spring ring.

The conversion of the ball pads at the front end from bronze to hardened steel to correspond with the back end, we have left to Derby.
