S/W...BY. c. to Ld. -> Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Kr C15/C3.2.38 Re B.128.GA...S. de Mier,Esq. Further to C5/C3.2.38, I enclose copy of letter we have now received from Mr. de Mier in reply to our letter telling him that when the car came to us for minor electrical adjustments we found there was only a quart of oil in the sump whereas the maximum should be 1 1/4 gallons and the minimum 3/4-gallon. You will see he refers to an item in our bill of 18/6d for changing the oil. Will you please let me know how this was made up. Presumably it was not only oil and there was some labour. The main point is that he says that there must be a leak in the oil system. Will you please let me know if I can inform him that we investigated for a leak but could find no trace of it, and therefore this was not the cause of the shortage of oil? Will BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} also tell me whether this was also the case in respect of the engine now at Derby when it arrived after the damage had been done - that is, 600 miles later than the 18th January.
