EXPERIMENTAL CAR TROUBLES.

With reference to your report on Experimental Car Troubles, Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Wym. {G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} 1/SW.14.8.40, we have the following comments to make:-

1. BROKEN OIL PIPES.

We would like all the external oil pipes on cast iron engines to be converted to Bundy steel tubing. We believe that this is made in all sizes.

Having obtained the necessary tubing and fitted it up, the material on the drawing of the pipe should be changed to Bundy steel tubing and Ev. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} should be notified.

2. S.U. CARBURETTERS.

The next carburetter that sticks should be measured up and, when measurements have been taken, the carburetter should be sent to Skinner.

3. WATER PUMPS.

If the Vauxhall water pump is capable of being fitted to a cast iron engine, it should be fitted to 4.B.50.

4. COILS.

Since Lucas Sports Coils seem to be the most reliable of any we have so far tried, this coil should be fitted to all Experimental cars possible.

5. PETROL PUMPS.

We should like to know whether the condition of the contacts was sufficiently bad to have caused the pump to fail without the diaphragms digging in.

6. RUBBER STARTER MOTOR DRIVES.

At the earliest possible moment all Lucas starter motors with rubber drives should be converted so that the rubber bush is vulcanised onto the shaft.

Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /RC. {R. Childs} has been discussing this matter with the British Rubber Co.
