| BY6-P29.4.20. contd. - 3 - b/- R.R.Ltd, will supply a drawing showing not only the point referred to in item a/- of this paragraph, but also the method of tapering the thickness off the end of each spring plate with the object of reducing the pressures on the ends of the plates, thereby doing away with squeaking. (4) Re Type of rear spring for production beyond the first 2000 chassis. a/- Messrs. R.R.Ltd, are to make up their minds definitely within a period of four weeks at the outside, whether they intend to carry on producing one of the types of springs referred to above or whether they intend to revert to approximately the prewar type of spring having a large number of thin plates. b/- If the prewar type of spring is reverted to Messrs. Woodhead have offered, so far as the second plate is concerned, to turn up two ears near the ends of the plate as a side location. (5) Re Clips for side location. a/- In dealing with our present type of spring which has a few thick plates and sheared ends, Messrs. Woodhead will fit the two clips they are fitting at present. Messrs. R.R. Ltd, will supply either to Messrs. Woodheads or after the spring are delivered at their own works, clips which will be fitted between the present clip and the centre of the spring. The urgency of this particular point must be distinctly understood by everybody at R.R.Ltd. b/- In the event of the prewar type of spring being reverted to, as mentioned above, Messrs. Woodhead's will forge small ears solid with the second plate only and Messrs. R.R.Ltd, will have to produce the forging for the clip or clips which they deem necessary in addition to the ears and either fit the clips themselves or supply them to Messrs. Woodhead for them to fit. contd. | ||
