To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re the Burney Car. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/E22.12.31

I am in receipt of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/MJ.18.12.31. Thank you for sending me Sir Dennis Burney's paper on the streamlined car which I have read and return herewith.

It appears to be quite evident that he is very anxious to become associated with us in some way so that he can make use of our name.

After telling him that we were not interested at this juncture in anything in connection with a new Company or in connection with experimental work, he tackled me to see whether we would agree to manufacture parts for them.

At the back of his mind, I think, was the idea that it would be a very great help to him and his Company to be able to say and advertise that the parts were being manufactured by RR.Ltd.

I quite agree with you that this development is one which we must carefully watch, and I am giving you the above information because I feel that on the other side we must keep a strict watch on his desire on his part to obtain what I might perhaps refer to as some sort of Rolls-Royce "Blessing" on his schemes.

I notice he is referring to bringing another car up to Derby after Christmas and, unless this is going to do us some particular good, I think I should put him off.
