-2- Noise from Rad. Fans. Chryslers have a novel cooling fan behind the radiator, designed to eliminate noise. It is a four bladed fan with fan blades of conventional shape but each pair of blades separated by about 45°. This they claim runs very quietly and prevents the harmonic interference of equally spaced blades. [Image of a four-bladed fan] ABOUT 45° Valve Spring Swishing. Pontiac have a scheme of 'damped' valve springs which they demonstrated with an oscilloscope. Each spring is covered to about half its working length by a split sheet steel thimble which presses on the coils of the spring. Shewn on the oscilloscope and compared with undamped springs it completely eliminated coil surge at all speeds. They also claim 200 R.P.M. higher speed before the valve bounces. Auburn cars have stiffened up frames called the 'X' plus 'A' scheme shewn here :- [Image of a car frame] REAR FRONT BOX SECTION | ||
