Mer RE WHITTLE BELTS. YOUR MEMO R3/IB9415. R. {Sir Henry Royce} 14.4.15. M5/G14415. C.J. Regarding the chain drive that you ask for in the above memo, we have written to Hans Renold in the following manner:- " We are desirous of obtaining a chain to run at 2000 ft. per minute and transmit 2½ H.P. from either a 2½" pulley to 5", or 5" to 2½", centre distance 18" to 24", vertical drive. Will you kindly let us know what type of chain you would suggest and any information that may assist us in this matter. We should also require 2½" and 5" wheels for 1¼" and 1½" shafting." and they have replied as follows:- "We thank you for your esteemed enquiry of the 12th inst. respecting chain gear capable of transmitting 2½ H.P. at a linear speed of 2000 ft. per minute. This speed is rather on the high side, but considering the comparatively small power, and provided the chain was kept well lubricated we think that the proposed drive could be very suitably arranged with No. 8100 .375" pitch multiple bush roller chain 1.7" wide, and wheels of 21T and 42T respectively. These wheels are of the pitch diameters | ||
