THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PISTON AND CYLINDER VARIES AT DIFFERENT PORTIONS OF THE BORE, GIVING GRADUATED DAMPING. A SPRING LOADED VALVE LIMITS THE MAXIMUM DAMPING ON REBOUND. ON COMPRESSION THERE IS ONLY ABOUT 1/8TH OF THE REBOUND DAMPING LOAD, A SPRING LOADED NON RETURN VALVE REMOVING THE NECESSITY FOR THE OIL TO PASS BY THE PISTON.
