1256 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}6/JH. 3nd. December, 1938. The Light Production Co.Ltd., 60/66 Rochester Row, Westminster. LONDON.S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. Brooks. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter ref. GHB/DP. dated 2nd. December, concerning the modified core box to produce pistons with a raised crown of .470". With reference to the 21 pistons already part finished with raised crown of .300. We would like you to proceed with these in accordance with your first suggestions, that is to finish these to our instructions prior to our letter of 1st. December, but we would like 7 of the 21 to be machined as per your second suggestion, that is to machine the crown to produce to dimension of .330. We realise that the crown will be thinner by .030 and we are willing to take the risk as we think this in itself will be an interesting experiment. We would however like your comments re possible results, or disadvantages. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
