To Sff. from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to Mr. [illegible name crossed out] " " E.O. WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town. X.4372 COPY. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/G25/4/21. RE 40/50 H.P. FRONT AXLE AND SPRING ATTACHMENT. We send herewith N. Scheme 901 showing a method of fastening the springs to the front axle, which Mr. Royce wishes Mr. Hives to rig up experimentally on some car, to test its general efficiency. It should be bumped as part of its test. It is considered that it takes the radius rod action between the top spring plate and the front axle, better than the present standard, and is the simplest method of doing this rather difficult job. It should be detailed to suit a particular car or set of springs. We are aware that the screwing of the projecting pins presents some difficulties on account of clearance for the die-head, but it is thought these can be overcome for the experimental piece. If it is adopted, more room will be given between the pins. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} [Stamp: RECEIVED 6 APR 1921 ROLLS-ROYCE LTD] | ||
