To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL EFC2/AM.10.29. X5792 X.5792. NEW SLEEVELESS TYPE R.O.2. MAGNETO FOR 20 HP. For some time, as you know, we have requested Messrs. North to produce for us a 20 HP. magneto of simpler and cheaper sleeveless construction, but one which will provide a reasonable range (but is not necessarily as great as the range required for Phantom), and have a particularly good low speed sparking performance to enable an easy start of the 20 H.P. on magneto when the battery ignition cannot be used for any reason. About a month ago we received three such magnetos, and the following are our remarks to date on this matter. On a 7 hours endurance test of one of the three shortly after receipt, we had a partial failure of the secondary winding to the core which necessitated the return of this one machine to the makers. Consequently we paid more particular attention to the other two machines before passing these over for running on the chassis. It should be here stated that these magnetos have similar contact breaker and armature to those of the R.W.6. Phantom magneto, but externally they have the same appearance as the previous type RO.{C.
