HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL. R1/M2.11.31. CRANKSHAFT BALANCE WEIGHTS. X 5010 I cannot understand why you fear getting the Chrysler scheme incorrect in balance, because if the eight smaller weights are wrong in quantity the static balancing will shew. Regarding the position of the weights the machining by the assistance of the dividing plate would ensure this. As far as we can see if the milling cutter is set correctly for the ends it will do the intermediate surfaces correctly provided it is not moved as regards the finishing cut. In the case of the temporary scheme LeC. 2948. the table of the machine can be moved over exactly the .125 suggested before the intermediate cut is taken. Finally we say that should any error arise in the milling of the crank or on the construction of the balance weights it should be detectable by measurement, or should assert itself in the static balancing. GRY.{Shadwell Grylls} can ponder over this and confirm it. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
