To C. From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.10.9.31. Re. Chassis for Lord Cholmondeley. Referring to C11/C8.9.31 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/MJ.9.9.31, these contained the necessary instructions for pistons and the exhaust system which we recommend to be fitted to Lord Cholmondeley's 25 HP. car. Going over the matter, we strongly recommend that we should also fit to this car a modified camshafts to drawing E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ss{S. Smith}640. A camshaft of this design has run over 10,000 miles on the 25 HP. car used by LP.{Mr Lappin} This camshaft has also been used on our high performance cars on Brooklands. The advantage we gain from this is that the high speed power is increased and that we reduce the tendency to detonate at low speeds. With the 5.6 C.R. we are getting to the state when detonations may become objectionable unless this camshaft is adopted. In the case of the car for Lord Cholmondeley, we have a spare camshaft in the Expl. Dept. which we could hand over to the Works for that chassis. The question also arises whether this car should be fitted with exhaust cut-out. Certain customers enjoy the car more when running with the cut-out open. We expect the increase in maximum speed would be approximately 2 miles/hour. with cut-out. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
