SECRET 1003. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} E/PSN.1/MN.23.3.37. Wraith III Starting Handle Guide at Base of Radiator. We send you herewith LeC.5576 of a starting handle guide and flap for the Wraith III, which is also ultimately to be used on all chassis. It is to be made in the form of a pressure die casting and only machined where indicated on the scheme. The material of the pressure die casting is at present under consideration by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wheeler, but the probabilities are that it will be made in Mazak or a similar zinc base alloy. The lid{A. J. Lidsey}, which is the most exposed part, will probably be made as a brass stamping or aluminium-bronze die casting. The cost of this part should be appreciably less than that of the corresponding parts on the other chassis. To make the die casting suitable for Bentley III the facing is required to take a bracket to carry a centre radiator strip but the holes on this facing should not be drilled for Wraith III. Will BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please keep in touch with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wheeler for confirmation with regard to the die casting and materials. E/PSN. Att:LeC.5576. | ||
