A twin system for B.III is receiving design attention.

Automatic starting carburetter.

This is generally satisfactory. Cold chamber tests are outlined but not yet carried out. There appears to be a warming up period when the engine is slightly difficult to re-start if switched off owing to the starting carburetter cutting out with the main carbs still cold, whereas the cut off is correct if the engine is kept running.

This is not very serious but will be investigated further.

GEARBOX.

Gear lever rattles.

This lever and mechanism is obsolete. The following points have, however, been learnt.

(1) With the lever spring loaded all one way the extreme travel must be determined by some form of collar on the shaft and not by the lever coming against the gate. This was easily modified by cutting the gate away. This also over came clatter with engine movement in direct or overdrive.

(2) The inner universal joint should be lubricated from the gearbox. The outside overhung joint Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}
