Air Silencer development. It has been found by experiment that we cannot appreciably shorten the silencer to ECD.530 without introducing intake roar at 2900 r.p.m. A complete silencer to this scheme is now being built up for test.

Oil leaks from rocker cover joint. Rubber washers in place of the springs in the holding-down nuts have been fitted (as well as on several Wraiths). These enable more load to be applied to the joint washer
At the same time they are slightly better for silence. They are so far satisfactory.
Nickel deposited S/W nuts in place of B/ZS are being tried on the and other engines as they effect a considerable cost saving.

Ground clearance. The breather pipe projects below the bottom of the sump and has wiped the ground. We understand that its length will not be settled until the side trays are fixed. It has been pointed out to Mr. McStay.
The sump is marked but this is considered an exceptional circumstance, no ordinary testing on rough lanes producing a foul on the sump.
