Contd. -4- EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T2.11.21. definitely settled, it will be better to retain all the dynamos as insulated machines, as the earthing of one terminal to the carcase is very readily carried out at any time, whereas the reverse is not the case. With regard to the ignition, it is intended that the R.R. Goshawk battery ignition be fitted to all six cars. No special ignition switch will be required and any type of standard single switch can be used for this purpose, for the time being. Provision has been made on the R.R. switchbox for the ignition switch. With regard to the low tension contact points, an enquiry should be sent to Messrs. Reynolds for fitting up these points with 25% iridio-platinum points welded to steel rivets and these should be tried out in comparison with pure platinum. We suggest three sets of each. Tungsten low tension contact points are not from our experience to be recommended even for trial. With regard to the high tension distributor points, the detail drawings call for tungsten or nickel and it was suggested that those sets which are made up in the works employ nickel, but those made up in the Experimental Dept. employ tungsten, so as to get a comparison of these two materials. In the case of the Klaxon horn and the ammeter, it is decided that we draw upon our stock of these items. Suitable Klaxon horn switches, however, should be enquired for Contd. | ||
