To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to By/RD, c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} re R.R. type Foot Dipper Switch to D.180. A minor adjustment which consisted of raising the plunger support .030" relative to the base, was necessary in order to obtain satisfactory operation of the ratchet. It was also noted that one headlamp contact made before the other, this however, was only apparent when the plunger was depressed slowly by hand. The switch completed 60,948 operations before breaking down, due to the cradle return spring breaking. The electrical load throughout the test consisted of switching on and off alternately, two pairs of 12 volt 60 watt bulbs, one pair to the headlamp terminals, the other to the dipper terminals. A volt drop test taken at the commencement of the test gave the following results :- Terminals Current Volt drop. F1 - H1 { 5 amp. { .011 - .027 {10 amp. { .030 - .034. F2 - H2 { 5 amp. { .018 - .020. {10 amp. { .039 - .050 F2 - D1 { 5 amp. { .031 - .047 {10 amp. { .069 - .073 On examination after the test, the switch was found to be in a good condition, and with minor adjustments, should give a very satisfactory performance. Further endurance tests are being carried out. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
