87772. Expl. Dept. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ. August 28th.1931. R.B.Burton Esq., Rolls-Royce America Inc., Springfield, Mass. U.S.A. Dear Burton, I should be very interested to hear how you are getting on. I do not even know whether you are still at Springfield. I have heard that Caswell has passed on and I should imagine that you are all having a very "sticky" time. We should like to hear what your prospects are and also how many P.II's you have completed and delivered, and what complaints you have (if any). This information will not be used as evidence against you. The car position with us is very, very, quiet but fortunately we have got some profitable orders for aero engines. I was pleased to see that we are sending you a few more left-hand chassis and hope that you will carry on. We have experimentally made some very definite improvements in performance on the 25 HP. For instance, I was on Brookland's Track last week and we obtained a maximum speed of 80 m.p.h. out of one of the small cars. We expect to have one of these cars running shortly with a gearbox with synchro mesh similar to General Motor's. Please remember me to anybody that is left, especially Ross. Kind regards to your wife and kiddies. Yours sincerely, | ||
