MINUTES OF CONFERENCE BETWEEN MESSRS. PARK WARDS AND ROLLS-ROYCE, HELD ON THURSDAY, MAY 12TH 1938.

Present:

1-B-50 BODY.

(1). The body was inspected by Mr. Finney and the rest of the Conference, and the defects enumerated in Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}12/G.10.5.38. were pointed out.

Mr. Finney agreed that the body cannot be regarded as a prototype of what we shall receive on production. He will send men to rehang the doors when the body is mounted. The body will then be lifted for the chassis to go into the Shop, and he will then deal with the other defects.

To demonstrate the necessity for rubber body mounting on such a car as B.50, having a rigid frame he was taken out in a Wraith, and then transferred to the Oldsmobile to perceive the tyre noise in the latter, which has a solidly mounted body.

(2). It was stated that the electrically operated division window of 1-B-50 is of an improved pattern, and our criticisms of it would be welcomed.

(3). The view ahead from the rear seat was discussed in particular with reference to 1-B-50. It was pointed out that the height of the scuttle rail housing the Lucas Screen Wipers is as low as possible. The general opinion was not in favour of Vacuum operated wipers at the top of the screen. It was agreed to continue the investigation into finding a means of improving the visibility.

(4). It was desired that Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} should obtain the weight of the complete coachwork and accessories of 1-B-50 before the body is mounted finally.

(5). Messrs. Finney and Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} expressed a desire to come up to see 1-B-50 when it is a complete motor car, and such a visit will be arranged.
