X766 W/S H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn8/H23.10.24. re. Chassis 3-KG. I.de Pedraza. Over-heating Complaint. With reference to your memo H2/TB/22.10.24. we were expecting this car to come to the Works in order that we could thoroughly test it and make sure that all possible has been done with our present knowledge. We are aware that Madrid have done all possible can to overcome this customer's complaint of overheating. They they have fitted a high speed fan, shutters to bonnet and converted the engine to high compression. Apparently, they have also made certain that the engine is running in a satisfactory condition. The only further modification we can suggest to improve matters slightly is to fit a louvred bonnet in place of the present bonnet which has the standard shutters. In connection with this point, we should propose to fit a bonnet with the largest possible louvres, which we are of the opinion would affect a slight improvement, especially in conjunction with the high speed fan which is at present fitted, as it is just possible that even although this customer has shutters to his bonnet he have them open. Apart from this, the louvred bonnet which we propose to fit would certainly allow the escape of hot air from the engine more rapidly (in conjunction with the high speed fan) than at present. We have consulted with BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is away from the Works) and he agrees with the above, and states that at the moment he does not know of any improvements, other than the above, which can be effected. If the car could come to the Works for the louvred bonnet to be fitted, we could at the same time go thoroughly over the engine to make sure that it was running satisfactorily and see if any possible improvement could be made by tuning or adjustment.
