To BP. from BJ. Copies to: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4424 BJ4/H4.6.23. VERY URGENT. 20 H.P. AXLES. Some 20 h.p. chassis have arrived here with 11/50 axles. We understand these are new type axles made in a similar manner to the 40/50 h.p. axles and that since the car which visited La{L. A. Archer} Canadel was fitted with them they are being tested for 10,000 miles as quickly as possible. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} has sent these chassis to London advising that they are O.K. On the strength of this, we have collected payment and told customers they are ready. On the other hand, Mr. Evans has instructions from the Works not to pass any chassis of this type, as the axles have not been standardised and no standardisation sheet has been sent round. We want to send two of these chassis to Australia immediately and shipping accommodation has been booked. Please let us know by telegram on receipt of this memo the position of the 10,000 miles test, and whether it is advised that we are sufficiently satisfied with these axles to allow them to proceed to Australia.
