Birmingham.

For the attention of Mr. Skinner.

Dear Mr. Skinner,

We have got a revival of interest (which I hope will last) in S.U. carburetters on unsupercharged cars, particularly on the power unit on which I gave you a run when you were here last. You will recollect that this had two 1 3/4" throttle diameter S.U. carburetters on it. These carburetters were taken off a 4 litre Bentley and were undesirable in many ways particularly with regard to the jet control. This engine is 3.5 litres and gives 110 HP. at 4000 r.p.m. I think therefore that these carburetters are rather unnecessarily large for the job, and that we should probably get better opening-up if we use the next smaller size, especially if the new type air valve is incorporated. Will you, therefore, please let me know if you can supply us with a pair of such carburetters, and also how soon you think you can let us have them. On this occasion we propose to pay for them.

If you will let me have the dimensions of their flanges I can get an induction pipe made up at once, and then later we will hand the car over to you to tune up the carburetters.

We have come to the conclusion that ultimately we shall want to use your automatic jet control by suction and temperature.
