167 -2- future axles tests but as a matter of fact they are general testing tackle which will at all times be most useful for the various odd tests that have to be made at frequent intervals. At present he has to borrow any angle plates or box sections which he requires and this nearly always occasions considerable delay. The hydraulic ram would also be a most useful piece to have for the purpose of applying big loads without any danger from falling weights etc. A ram is almost universal in its application and could in many cases be used in conjunction with the set of beam scales (which Mr Platford found in the works) when great accuracy is required. I have taken the liberty to put these points before you because although a special testing tackle for axles | ||
