20HP CHASSIS. SPRINGING.

We have been trying out quite a number of examples of body weights in relation to a formula for springing the chassis correctly to cover our requirements. We have definitely proved to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , that it is necessary to have stronger front springs, as we cannot produce any method of arriving at the type of springs to be fitted to any particular chassis which will bring front and rear springs in conformity with the practice of the Experimental Department.

Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , agrees in view of the facts we have put forward that it is advisable for us not to order any more 550 lb. front springs, but to make the range of front springs 600, 650 and a small stock (50 pairs) of 700 lb. springs.

We do not want this change of policy to interfere with delivery of springs, as we shall carry on fitting the lighter type front springs until such time as the heavier ones become available, as we do not propose to carry on our hands a number of 550 lb. springs for which we have no use, but it will be evident that this being the case we wish to stop supplies of 550 lb. springs as soon as this can possibly be done in conformity with the requirements that we must not cause a hold up in spring deliveries and therefore chassis deliveries to obtain this.

The matter is urgent, because we have recently placed an order for springs for which material will be on order which we think should be made to the new proposals in which the 600 lb. spring will replace the 550 lb.
" 650 lb. " " " 600 lb. and
" 700 lb. " " " 650 lb.

of which we have 50 pairs on order.

The foregoing are our requirements - we are leaving ourselves in the hands of the O.O. as to how quickly the modified proposals can be brought into force without scrap.
