-2- PROPOSALS REMARKS 6. Selection of correct adjustment washers for endwise setting of diff;box would be facilitated by deletion of spigots on covers GB.3683. It appears that these covers would be satisfactorily located by retaining studs. 7. Spherical washer has been introduced under pinion bearing retaining nut. It would be preferable, however, to manufacture nut and housing to close limits of accuracy rather than use spherical washer. 8. In order to obviate need for broaching, pinion outer race retaining nut GB.3677, it is suggested that serrations be broached using an existing broach. Question of a suitable existing broach is being investigated. [Handwritten remark: Hle] 9. Question of bearing makers incorporating necessary preload allowance on pinion bearing races is being considered. This will eliminate need for selective assembly. No 10. If pinion drive flange were retained by splines instead of taper on pinion shank, nut KB.3521 and Lock Plate could be deleted, since flange retaining nut would also trap bearings. It should be possible to use an existing broach for this modification. No 11. It is proposed that cone formation of axle side plates be left unmachined. This is already done on Wraith. | ||
