EAC.7. FRAME TIES.

We send herewith N.sch.2098 shewing the layout of the EAC.7. tie-bars. We have investigated this layout diagrammatically and find that it appears to be the most suitable for the car without a body subframe, so that we expect that it will be adhered to until the subframe is standardised. When that happens we are suggesting to R.{Sir Henry Royce} that a modification to the tie-bars might be desirable.

We have shewn on N.sch.2114 a diagram of the bending moments and deflections without a body subframe.

On N.sch.2115 we have shewn a similar diagram for the same tie-bars with a body subframe, and on N.sch.2116 the proposed new form of tie-bar, which we think is lighter and gives the same or an improved result when a subframe is used.

We have also shewn on N.sch.2117 a further suggested modification in which one of the queen posts is removed, effecting a further lightening and simplification.

We are putting these diagrams up to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and expect that he will give us an indication of his preference in the course of a short while. In the meanwhile would you please work to N.sch.2098 as being the official tie-bar layout.
