Dear Mr. Grylls,

I have just received your new Instruction Books covering the Phantom III and Bentley 4 1/4 litre, which, in view of our recent conversation, were naturally read with very great interest.

One of the points on which I am not clear is the recommendation shown for "Hi-Press" oil in the rear axles of these two cars, both of which are fitted with a Hypoid Rear Axle.

My recollection of our conversation is that you would continue with an ordinary "Extreme Pressure" lubricant, i.e. "Hi-Press" for the old axles, and that you were experimenting with the Hypoid axle with a view to certain modifications to make it more suitable for the special Hypoid type of gear lubricant.

I believe your experimental work was being done on Mobiloil H.G.L. (Hypoid Gear Lubricant), and that your intention was, after a satisfactory conclusion to the experiments, to include the other Hypoid Lubricants of the various oil Companies, these lubricants being, as you are aware, all of a similar type.

It would appear therefore that your experiments are as yet incomplete, and that Hypoid Gear Lubricant, as such, is not correct for your present production??

You will no doubt appreciate my Reasons for querying this, as from time to time we are asked for the correct Shell grade for your product, and it is, of course, essential that we make no mistakes.
