SAMPLE STARTER MOTOR ORDERED FROM OUTSIDE FIRMS.

With reference to the above Starter Motors of which we have ordered three one from each of the following firms:-

Lucas Limited.
Smith & Sons (M.A.)Limited.
C.A.Vandervell & Co.,Limited.

In addition to the above we may order a motor from Rotax (M.A.) Limited but this has been put up to R. {Sir Henry Royce} to decide.

Each machine is their standard model modified to suit our special requirements and is being made up as follows:-

Mechanically in accordance with drawings supplied by us to enable the motors to be fitted to "Goshawk" II Engine and to take our own Bendix Drive, as instructed in the design issued by West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} is now in communication with the makers as to the expected electrical performance.

Please receive herewith two blue prints of each of the following L.O.P.'s and Outlines:-

D.50050 C.A.V.Motor modified S.C.Model L.O.P.
D.50050 " " " " Outline.
D.50052 Smiths " S.S. " L.O.P.
D.50052 " " " " Outline.

All the detailed parts quoted on these L.O.P.'s are to be produced in our own works and despatched as soon as possible to the respective firms to enable them to assemble and test the motors before finally despatching to us. The O.O. should be notified as soon as these parts are completed in order that they may issue despatch instructions.

Regarding the Lucas model we are still in communication with these people and are unable at present to issue an L.O.P.,neither can we issue an I.O.P. for the R.R. design of Starter, but we consider that with the exception of the Armature Shaft and Bearing Bracket, each of which is special for each machine, five sets of the remaining details (which are common to all machines) should be produced at once, i.e., D.50021/2/3. D.50027/8/9 and D.50044 and
