WHEEL JACKS FOR 20 HP. CARS.

X4491.

The position of wheel jacks for the 20 HP. car can be summarised as follows :-

At the beginning of 1928 the Michelin people (whose jack we used on 20 HP. car) ceased to manufacture jacks. Accordingly we had to look round for an alternative. In the meantime the Dunlop super D.L. jack was considered too large for the job, we did not require the large lift or the bulk, as 5¼" tyres on 21" rims were then standard on the 20 HP. cars. We are now using 6" tyres on 19" rims which require a jack having a smaller minimum height and a greater mechanical lift.

Messrs. Tangye produced a jack for the 20 HP. which we approved of after several alterations, this was standardised as a result of our report Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /AJL/LG31.1.29 and also after Sales had approved of it. We only received the one sample jack, and having approved of it negotiations were begun between Tangyes and ourselves to arrange for production of this jack for the 20 HP. car. An examination of the production samples of this jack show that in workmanship, materials and design it is very inferior to the sample submitted to us. It is apparent that all these jacks so far delivered should be returned to Tangyes and made equal in every respect to their sample jack,
