Re: Chassis 80-WJ - Rear Axle. ------------------------------ Referring to Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/CI.17/KH.8.10.30, we have examined the rear axle from the above chassis, and find the gears have picked up on the teeth in a similar manner to those that failed some time ago due to lack of oil. The amount of oil in the axle when received from Cricklewood should be quite sufficient for satisfactory running, and although the oil had run along the axle shafts, and into the brake drums, the amount was not large. A sample of the oil has been sent to H1. for analysis to verify that it is Whitmore's Compound, and the gears themselves have been handed to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} for his examination. As new gears will have to be fitted, we suggest these should be charged against Works Policy. There is one other point in connection with this axle i.e. Mr Pritchard informed us that the axle had evidently been dismantled before being sent to the Works, and we should like to know from Cricklewood if they did this, and if so, how much oil was lost during the dismantling.
