40/50 HP. CHASSIS
Collection of Complaints raised from various sources.

1. OVEROILING. Failure of Ignition plugs, objectionable smoke from exhaust, or heavy oil consumption.
Will lubrication remain satisfactory? Are we satisfied lubrication not scanty or develops so?
(Refer engine piston knocks, later).
Cases have been brought forward in which the engine lubrication has been considered normally satisfactory, but complaints have been raised of smoke from the exhaust, especially when starting up just after stopping down.

2. TAPPETS NOISY Difficulty of obtaining quietness with specified clearance, and for this quietness to be maintained.
We have also had trouble and complaints of the adjustment scheme, the threads of the screws of the centre brackets being easily stripped. Noise has also been traced due to the action of the valve springs.

3. CLUTCH - tendency to shudder and grab, and in some cases groan on engagement.
There is also a certain amount of chunking in the drive, which I understand CWB. raised as being due to the faulty action of the clutch.
The clutch brake stop is also a feature which has given trouble in service, and is not yet considered satisfactory.

4. EXHAUST - noisy - "coughs" on retard, butterfly squeaks and sticks, tendency to 'Pink' Fumes on retard.
Tendency for explosions to take place in silencer when switching off after a hard run.
Cutout doubtful for closing, seizes, rattles at times blows on the axle, burning leather covers (? brake mechanism lubrication)
Condition of the lagging of the silencer and pipes after service use..
Burning of the pipes after being in use for some time.

5. STEERING.- wobbles and joggles, road shocks etc.
In some cases develops stiff, ball ends suspected.
"Lock" to right less than "Silver Ghost"
Loss of control of steering when front brakes too effective, or brakes too suddenly applied. when steering.
